SFC Sam made it back home in time for Christmas

Just got a link to this video clip from channel 13 in Des Moines featuring an old friend I haven’t seen in years returning home to his family in Iowa. He’s been diffusing bombs for the past year. Holy crap.

Soldiers from the 224th Engineer Battalion returned Saturday after a year in Iraq. The soldiers were welcomed back in five communities across the southeastern part of the state. Channel 13’s Dan Winters reports the story of one Ottumwa family together in time for Christmas.

I parked my motorcycle right outside his window in college. There were many, many times I shook him out of bed at 2 am. Thanks for not kicking my ass, Sam.
